|24" Univega Road Bike. Help!||Berkeley Michael|

|I found this 20 year old road bike for my 10 year old. All the bearings are great. I'm replacing all the rubber, cables, housings, pads, tape, and seat. I've trued up the wheels and given her a good lube. Not bad.
The only hang-up is the non-index shifting. This is 10 speed Suntour with two chain rings and a 5 gear cassette.
Any thoughts on making this a little more friendly?

|I farnkly have my doubts. I also have doubts about any attempt to wedge a six-speed freewheel in there so you CAN index it.
You really only have two easy alternatives: Live with it (it's a valuable skill to learn, friction shifting, and fun) or turn it into a single speed (all 10-year-old rode single speeds way back when, and we managed real well.)
Whatever, I'm sure he'll enjoy it.
