Thinking of a trip from west to east coast. I have no idea what the costs of living would be. Could somebody give me an idea for monthly costs. Like food and stuff. No motels. thanks.

If you're camping, you can usually get by for pretty low cost. If you're using sanctioned camping facilities, you're usually looking at $10 per night or more for a campsite and use of the showers, toilet, etc. If you're guerilla camping, that obviously is free. I don't advocate either one, but have done both and there are tradeoffs. Food, you can do cheap or expensive. If you carry oatmeal, pasta, rice, lentils, ramen noodles, veggies, whatever and do all of your own cooking, you can get by REALLY cheaply (a few dollars per day). If you're eating in restaurants and eating power bars and drinking gatoraid on the road, it's gonna cost a lot more.

So, its really up to you you - if you guerrilla camp and are really frugal with the food, you should be able to get by for $10 per day or less, possibly way less. If you stay in campsites and eat in restaurants, you could be looking at up to $30-$40 per day or more if you like fancy restaurants.

Hope this helps,

-Ray
