|Ok so I am 18 years old, 6'1'', and 145lbs. I ride around 200 miles per week, and have a resting pulse of 43 beats per minute. I race cat 4 occasionally but mainly train on my own. My question is this, what area of the sport should I focus on? I like to climb and sprint but I don't know which discipline I am better at. I can drop people on the climbs and sprint at about 35mph in 53-14. Should I focus on being an "all arounder" or being a climber or a sprinter?
Thanks for your input. Ciao!

|But lighter.Im 6ft 155(I am also 30 and have gained 6 or 7lbs since I was your age).
I am a good sprinter and I can out climb most too!
My advice:Work on endurance and the rest will follow.
All around is good.Strong and light!
Ride like you are now and you will get even stronger.
If you can breakaway from the group do it.Save some energy for a sprint cause more than likley your gonna get caught.
And dont take everyone's advice.

|Being a cat 4, there is no need to start focusing on becoming a climber or a sprinter. Continue developing your overall skills. At that level of racing, it will usually boil down to a field sprint in a crit and possible a sprint with 5-10 guys in a road race with hills. Once you upgrade to the 3's, you'll start noticing which are your strong points as well as weaknesses. Incorporate climbs at least on one day of training and a specific day for sprints and intervals. That will help you improve in both areas.
Keep us posted on your results.
