Cross Post from Retro Classic.

Howdy,
I am currently looking at a 1990 plus or minus a year Bottecchia SLX tube chrome head lugs, chrome seat/chain stays, and chrome seat lugs with Dura Ace 8spd. It seems to be in great condition based on the pictures but I haven't seen it in person yet. Provided the paint is in good condition and the frame has no damage and the wheels are in decent condition what would be an acceptable amount to pay for a bike like this? Original asking price was at $1,200 but he has indicated that he is very willing to negotiate, would $600-$800 still be too much? Thanks for your replies

it isn't a true collector, so this is a real "what's it worth to YOU" item. To me, it would be worth no more than $500, but I've already got an older lugged tange retro bike.

$600 seems too high. I bought a 1995ish Bottecchia for $550 on eBay a couple of years ago. The bike was in mint condition w/8-sp Campy Record Ergo shifters/rear derailler and Dura Ace for other drive-train components. Searching the completed auction portion on eBay for the term "Bottecchia" is one way to find what similar ones sold for.
I'm thinking $400-$500 (nm)Kerry Irons

Actually a Bottechia TSX built up with Campy Record 8, Delta brakes, a white Flite saddle and Mavic Mach2CD2 tubular rims. It has an "Aero" fork with a more sloping crown and the "B" engaved on the side. But the same colors and chrome, and red and white bottle cages. I got the bike new in '89 and rode it till last year. I fell in love with that frame the minute I saw it in the shop-Roy's Sheepshead Cycle. Like you say "In the eye of the beholder"

May or may not be desirable depending on how you ride.

the only way to do would be to take it all apart and sell it piece by piece on eBay--and even then I doubt he get his $600-800. As a whole bike I'd say $400 max. I got almost the same bike a few years ago at a swap meet by trading the guy a pair of new Time pedals and $100.
