An 11-year-old boy was reportedly struck by lightning while riding his bicycle Friday afternoon.

Neighbors said the boy was knocked unconscious and they tried to get him breathing again. He was reportedly conscious when emergency crews transported him to the hospital. He was listed in serious condition Friday evening.

Nicholas Luther was riding home with his friends in the area of Big Beaver (16 Mile) and John R roads, when it started to rain. He was hit by the lightning as he rode his bicycle across a lawn while he and the other boys sought shelter from the rain, Local 4 reported.

The boy's friends said they felt a jolt and saw a flash when the lightning struck. They looked back and saw Nicholas laying on the ground, the station reported. They said it had just started to rain and they had not seen lightning or heard thunder yet.

A hole was reportedly left in the ground from where the lightning hit.

I thought this would be a question about riding at night. In which case I've tried nightsun & performance lighting systems. Both work very well.
