| Height/Weight Questions... | KRider Aug 1, 2003 10:00 AM | | What is an average body weight for most racers (pro)? How about riders in the tour?
Personally, I'm 5'11" and 135-140 lbs (fluctuate). Just curious if this about right. What about body fat percentages? Yes, I know, a lot of questions. Thanx to anyone who can give me some info!

| You want their weight before or after the tour? | firstrax Aug 1, 2003 10:16 AM | | I think most team websites post the stats. |
| re: Height/Weight Questions... | wspokes Aug 1, 2003 10:27 AM | | When I did race (not pro but I was in good shape)
6' 1/2 inch at 135-140 fluctuate...
body fat was around 5% (done through research study in college at PSU Hershey Med Ctr)...
Now (retired?)
same height...more round...haha...actually not bad but 165-170 pounds. don't know body fat...don't want to know.
It sounds like you are pretty good weight for racing and riding!
If you want Pro..ask Aarontoy...just kidding!!!! |
| Question about that research... | KRider Aug 1, 2003 10:49 AM | | I'm interested in doing VO2 max tests and such. How did you get into doing that research? A side project in College? I live near ASU here in AZ, wondering if I could apply that. Really interested in the whole idea of nutritional research and such.
Any tips/suggestions/comments?

| Question about that research... | wspokes Aug 1, 2003 7:35 PM | | I rarely attended my classes in college...mostly clinicals only and biked the rest of the time. about 40-75 miles per day. 4-6 days a week and races on the weekends. At Hershey they had a sign up about testing. I took an application and filled it out. They chose people from all walks of culture from couch potatoes to active. I got chosen and went in to do the research study. I had the VO2 and all that jazz done too but I have long misplaced the info. I remember the body fat the most because I was the lowest in the group. After all the testing we met with different specialists and one was a nutritionalist...they told me to start eating milkshakes?!?
I would check with the local college and keep an eye out for various studies. Contact the research departments. I got paid $50 to undergo this test.
Any more questions, email me wspokes@penn.com
On the weekends I rarely check the RBR list because I use dial up and it is SLOW...at work...it is nice and speedy! |
| re: Height/Weight Questions... | Rubberbandman Aug 1, 2003 12:49 PM | | 6', 135lbs.! Dude you have to be kidding! Where are you from, Ethiopia! I'm 6'1" and 170lb and body is around 5%. I couldn't imagine being 30 lb less. |
| LOL!! not ethiopia... | wspokes Aug 1, 2003 7:45 PM | | From Pennsylvania...I was always tall and lanky. I have a scary picture I will scan sometime and even post here. I am standing alongside my mom...looks like a huge daddy longlegs with an old vetta helmet and the worst tights and sunglasses! haha.
I am about 165 pounds now and probably 8-9% body fat. I was a tall skinny lanky cross country runner who started cycling because I sucked at competitive running. I quickly took to being one of the best hill climbers around! Interestingly enough, I think I am slower on the hills now (weight or age?) but I believe I am overall a better all arounder for riding and feel taht I may even be faster than I was when I was younger and raced. I have attached a post skinny pic!
BTW, 5% at 6'1" and 170 is excellent! |
| re: thats nothing... | klippur Aug 2, 2003 11:11 AM | | I'm 6'4.5" and I weigh in at about 180 lbs. I eat like a friggin horse too but just can't seem to gain any weight. don't know what my body fat % is, but can't be much. I'm all legs too, my inseam is about 38.5". needless to say I have trouble finding a bike that will fit me.
