|I'll be staying in Redlands for 3 days next week at a training seminar (for work, not cycling). I'm thinking of bringing the bike. Anyone know if there are decent rides in this area? Also, is it terribly hot out there? I live in Santa Barbara, where its always pretty cool.
Thanks in advance-

|Sorry I can't help too much. I know virtually nothing of the area except that I race there every year. I'm sure there are some good rides around. Yes, it can be very very hot and very very smoggy there. It's pretty close to the worst smog area in SoCal, San Bernardino. The little town of Redlands appears to be pretty neat, somewhat State Streetish but MUCH smaller. Check on the route of the Redlands Classic and if you want, check with the guys at Canyonvelo.org.|

|Get on Hwy 38 and head east. When you get to Onyx Summit, turn around. That's a nice little climb.
Also, the climb to a town called Oak Glenn is very nice.

|Nice little climb. I like that. Something like 7500' in 40 miles.|

|Tuesday night "Sunset" ride (named after a road, not the time of day). ~30 miles, 1500' climbing with high speed canyon ride to finish. Usual group around 30 riders, cat 2-5. Meet at "Hogi Yogi" at 9th & Citrus at 6:00 p.m.
Thursday night crit practice. Avg 30 riders, cats 2-5, 45 mins + 5 laps. Orange Tree Lane, just north of I-10 and 1 block west of Alabama.
Saturday and Sunday club rides from "Grounds for Enjoyment" at Cajon and State. All levels of rides from novice to racer training. Meet at 7:00 a.m.
Hills? Head east on SR-38. It's all up for 40 miles to Onyx Summit. Turn around at Angelus Oaks (about 20 miles) or Jenks Lake (about 30 miles) if you don't want to go all the way up. Onyx is at 8400'; Redlands is around 1300'.
The Redlands Classic stage race is one of the US's top road races, and covers the entire area. Lots of good rides to choose from. If none of the above ring your bell, contact Redlands Cyclery on Tennessee St. for local info.
Hot? We're having temps in the 90's right now, it hit 110 a couple of weeks ago. Today's forecast high is 90, and we had a thunderstorm (VERY rare) last night. If that's a problem ride in the a.m., before it heats up and gets smoggy.
