KG361 vs 5200(7 posts)

KG361 vs 5200loki_1

I have read the other posts about look vs trek (kg486? vs 5900), people happy with either one, etc. I have test ridden the 5200 and like the ride, stiffness, fit. Currently I am riding an early 90's aluminum frame with 105 components.

Has anyone ridden both? Thoughts? Experiences? Differences?

My lbs has the 5200 on sale for $2200. This is the best price I've seen on it since I started looking in March. Will the bike go lower when the 2004's come out?

What could I expect to pay for a similarly equipped Look?

One factor is that the Look dealer is 30 mins from me, the Trek dealer is 5 minutes.

Another factor is that the price point for a 105 equipped KG361 ($1600 at Jenson) is very attractive.

Both are great frames but because of LOOK's geometry, I suggest riding both to see which fit's better.

Do you know where I could find information on the geomotry? Their website doesnt list it (that i could find).

What are the characteristics of the geometry?

Thanks.

When you pull up the frame webpage, there will be a grey frame image on the bottom left. Double click the frame and a PDF of each model's respective geometries will open. You'll have to reference the poorly marked frame to identify measurement dynamics(ie, A = c-to-c = 51cm, etc.)

Good luck.

The LOOK have a shorter "effective top tube" because of the seat tube angles.

I second the suggestion on test riding both. The 5200
is monocoque carbon fiber, whereas the KG361 has alu
lugs. Very different character.

As far as prices go, you can probably find a KG361 frame
for around $900-$1000. The 5200 goes for more than that,
plus Lance just won so you'll have a hard time finding
a good deal on Lance's bike ;-).

Go and test ride them, I suspect the 5200 will be stiffer
in the BB, but the KG361 is smoother yet more sure-footed.
I can't think of a better way to describe it!
