Hello all, I am new to road riding, haven't been on a bike in a while. I just picked up a used bike to get going again. I have been out a few times and am still working on getting my legs and lungs back. I live in Essex county NJ and am looking for some people to ride with, hopefully people kind enough to be patient with me but strong enough to help me push myself. I'd love to meet up for night rides during the week for an hour or two - otherwise I'm riding alone. I did hook up with some people from my local bike shop for an early Sunday ride but during the week I'm sure they don't want to wait for me.

Thanks,
Marc

Great club with riders of all levels from racers to new out of shape riders looking to improve.

Worth the car ride to the rides for the great scenery and lack of traffic.

A guy I know through mountain biking told me about this site after I got my road bike, but I haven't been on any group rides with them (I live in west joisey). They seem to have a Bergen County/North Jersey bias, but they have group rides in Essex County, too.

It's not a club or anything, but check out njbikemaps.com. I started school in NJ and live by these maps. They really make finding some good roads a breeze. I don't know if they have much for Essex, but then again, I'm not sure where all the county lines are yet.

congestion, potholes, no shoulders, nasty drivers. I lived in Livingston for 10 years after college and now live in Chatham. Rarely do I venture into that area now (except to do speed laps around the LIV. high school oval). 90% of my riding is in Morris/Somerset counties. But if you're willing to cross that county line you'll find armies of riders to spin/hammer with. Plenty of helpful shops too!

Marc
