|I finally got a state trooper to notice me last night ...||Humma Hah|

|I've been known to make a high-speed run past radar traps and not even get the cops to look up. What an insult!
So last night, I'm coming home on the cruiser. As I wait at a light at a tricky intersection, I noticed in the Third Eye that a state trooper had pulled up one car behind me. When the light changed, I did my usual ... proper turn signals, nice square turns, all very correct. Got on Stonewall Rd and noticed the cop was hanging back, watching me. I accelerated, wondering if I should show off with a sprint, but just held my normal pace. I glanced at the speedo as I neared my turn ... 17.6 mph. I signaled, and began my turn, the trooper still 100 ft back and pacing me.
As I turned, his PA boomed out, "18 mph. I'm impressed!"
I've had the bike up to 29 on level ground recently, and paced my favorite roadracer rabbits at about 20 mph for half a mile when I started my commute. I wonder if I could have coaxed a speeding ticket out of him?

|Congratulations. The Herndon police carry bikes on trunk racks sometimes. I've seen them on the W&OD twice--on their mountain bikes. Some of them have talked up riding. It's quiet, friendly, less intrusive, and good for fitness, all of which might pay off during an arrest.
So bikes probably have a somewhat friendlier cache with the cops, now that they're onto them. Bet they had some high spirited talk about your speed down at the station--as something they could train up to.

|On one of our local roads I spied an MC cop sitting there with his radar gun. It was a 25mph zone, and he was lookin' for some action. I pedaled up to him on the cross bike and asked him if he could shoot my speed for me. He said "sure". Then I asked him if I broke 25, if he would ticket me. He said "no, go for it"
I went up the street and started back. It was a slight downhill tailwind, and I got up some pretty good speed. I went by him, turned around and rode back to where he sat.
He was just on his way to nab a speeder, but he had time to call out, "Not bad, You hit 35!"
I felt pretty good I had 'beat the system' heh heh.

|Mine was a local cop with a radar gun at the bottom of a fair sized hill (Canon going East for those in SD). Yelled something about 37mph, pretty good out the window. 37!! That's it?? If that impresses you, you obviously don't know what bicycles are capable of!
Top speed: right at 60mph! Loooong hill...
