Advice for First Criterium?(4 posts)

Advice for First Criterium?mark_2811

Hi, I'm planning to enter my first criterium race in August. I don't really know what to expect, can anyone offer suggestions or advice? I'm not so sure about taking tight corners in a pack. The loop is 1km and the Cat 5 race will be 30 min + 3 laps.

Any suggestions are appreciated!

Yeah, hold your line in the corners, don't move around too much without looking to see whose wheel you're about to chop, stay at the front (not ON the front!) as much as possible, and most of all, be safe.

After that, its best to find someone's wheel that looks strong/experienced, and try and do what they do. (Safely!) Preferably find a guy with teammates in the bunch, they may have a plan you can piggy back on.

If you're racing solo and know some of the guys you're racing with, sometimes you can make an ad hoc "team" to help counter some of the teamwork of other guys.

Don't get discouraged if you don't do as well as you think you should. Its the first time after all!

Because my first crit is at the end of august in columbus, ga--the columbus inmotion crit. Thought it'd be nice to talk if we happen to be racing the same first crit.

Nope, I'm in Canada. Good luck in your race though! Have fun!
