|I am looking to buy my first road bike and would appreciate any advice you can offer. Ideally I would like to get it from my LBS but it won't be the end of the world if I have to get it online to get the best deal.
I am 220lbs, 6'4". Looking for a bike to take on group training rides with the occasional long distance or century. Maybe a novice class race or two but the results won't be as important as the excersise.
The lines my LBS carries are Giant, Trek, Specialized and Lemond. My budget is up $2K but ideally not more than $1,800.
So far I am considering:
Trek 2300 - $2K
giant TCR1 - $2K
Specialized Allez Comp - $1,750
Specialized Allez Comp CroMo - $1,750
The specs on all these bikes seem very similar and consist of mainly Ultegra componets. The specialized looks like the best bang for the buck and I like the assetics of both that and the Trek both the most. The Trek comes in 63cm the Specialized in 62cm the Giant in XL?
Any thoughts on which of these bikes would suit me best or are there any I've missed. Is steel a good or bad choice for a heavy pie eater such as myself? Any advice most apprecitaed.

|and love it. Wish my budget would have allowed the upgrade to the Comp, but I really don't think about it when I'm riding. I have approx 1200 miles on it since March and love the ride. Don't forget about shoes, pedals, etc. You prob won't find the Specialized online (new at least).|| |
