|I saw the biggest bunch of posers ever. Coming down are five or six guys, completely decked out in Rabobank gear, head to toe, riding Rabobank Colnagos. These guys are serious fans!
A couple of guys come by wearing Brioches la Boulangere outfits. Give me a break! At least pick a team that has won something! Maybe they got this stuff for free, or there's family involved.
Those guys are amateurs compared to the next guy I see. He's in Telekom gear, he's got the Telekom bike, and to top it off, he has bleached and cut his hair to look like Alexandre Vinokurov. Wow, this guy is the new King of Posers!
All hail, the King of...hey, wait a minute--that really IS Vinokurov!!! Oops.
The day was Bastille Day, when the race started from Bourg d'Oisans, the town at the bottom of L'Alpe d'Huez. Basically everyone on the tour stayed at the top of the mountain from the night before, and were now coming down to the race start. Team buses, team cars, press, officials, etc., mixed in with fans who had parked RVs for the race, all coming down the mountain, basically in a huge traffic jam. I think the smart riders rode down rather than sit on the bus (or in the case of ONCE, one of three buses!). It saved them a good half hour, and L'Alpe d'Huez is a very fun descent!
|Wow, that is really cool, I hope your having fun! nm||rwbadley|
