|I've been invited to attend this year's race on 9/14 and am curious for some feedback from those who have attended.
I've never been to a race so I'm hoping it's worth the trip.

|Twice! Worth the trip.
Start by watching it on Taylor for the first couple of hours and then walk towards the Embarcadero to catch a spot for the finishing sprint. Vendor/Expo area is okay. After the race stick around for about 1/2 hour and you'll be able to take pictures with the riders.

|Well worth it, of course we're just north in Sonoma County, but we spent a weekend in SF for the race.
It's awesome watching the pro's go up those hills!
The sponsor entourage is pretty impressive as well rocketing up and down those narrow crowd-lined streets.

|I went last year, had a great time. Where else are you going to see Lance Armstrong race?|

|I am lucky enough to live just across the bay from S.F. and have attended the race the last two years. It is a great event with a ton of wonderful viewing areas. My buddy and I get there really early and check out the riders lining up and such. After the start, we walk over to the infamous "hill" but stop for breakfast along the race route. It is very cool to be hanging out in North Beach eating while the racers zipp on by!
After checking out the climb, we make out way back over to the start/finish area and check out the end. Great day indeed.
I highly recommend the trip out here.

|Half the fun is wandering around the course and seeing a big city shut down for a pro race, and seeing hundreds of thousands lining the streets, and seeing the pros going insanely fast, and climbing on top of a bus stop shelter to see Eki and Lance get beat by the kid from canada, and stopping to eat at a sidewalk cafe while the racers buzz by, and... oh, that was about five halfs. That adds up to a lot of fun!
If you're on foot, you probably won't wander all the way to fillmore st. You can have a great day by viewing the start, then following the course up through north beach to the taylor street hill, and hang out for a while before going back to the start/finish.

|Plan on being there, and bring the bike with low gears, it can be a bit of a grunt goin' up them hills.
Going to San Francisco is always worth the "trip" (YDMV.)
