Riis bothered by speculation

Team CSC director Bjarne Riis has vented his frustrations concerning allegations by some that Tyler Hamilton's collarbone is not actually fractured following his stage 1 crash. Team Telekom manager Walter Godefroot is reported to have called the injury an American-style publicity stunt, a comment which was surely not appreciated by Riis and his team. Cyclingnews' colleagues at the Danish newspaper BT noted that Riis has been showing x-rays of Hamilton's fracture to any doubters.

Hamilton for his part took advantage of the rest day with a long massage and a short spin on the indoor trainer, while his teammates went for an hour's ride on the roads yesterday morning.
Let's try to be objective as both sides debate!!! Black Flagging?bigrider

I think there are reasons why this debate over the collarbone is ongoing. First, there can be so many varying degrees of an injury. They can range from a compound fracture to slight hairline cracks. I think the stone throwers are implying that the fractures couldn't be that severe or Tyler couldn't continue no matter how tough he is.

The other part of the debate that I feel is legitimate to discuss is "Should the rider determine if he is allowed to continue in a race or should a Doctor or group determine if a rider will not be permitted to continue due to a medical condition" Theoretically a rider could fracture a wrist and decide to continue riding one handed. The safety of other riders could be affected by his decision to continue. Race Car drivers get black flagged, should bike racers ever get black flagged?
If he can make the time limit...He stays...biknben

The time limts would eliminate those who really had bad injuries. A one handed rider isn't going to keep up for long.

I too have been skeptical of Tyler's break. I don't doubt it is broken but it can't be too bad for him to continue like he has.

I've been watching the tour, the day after the crash I could have sworn that it was stated that Tyler Hamilton had two (2) FRACTURES in his collarbone....

And Tyler stated that "I can't pull on that side" (meaning with that arm/shoulder)

A day or two later he attacked in the mountain stages, like he was sprinting from a rabid dog.......

HOW LONG COULD LOCAL LAST????????
