|Suppose there are two riders absolutely identical in dimensions and ability, riding two bikes that are identical except for spacers/stem. One rider is in a more stretched out position, with a longer stem and maybe more spacers. The second rider has a shorter stem and either a stem with a smaller angle or fewer spacers. Despite these differences, THE ANGLE defined by their torso and their top tube is the same for both riders (i.e., equally "bent over"). In other words, the 2nd rider has brought the bars towards him and down relative to the 1st rider.
What are some fundamental differences between these two constrasting positions with respect to bike handling, power (hills, flats), muscle fatigue, ability to sprint, and other biking factors?
