I hope they all make a full recovery. This is horrific that he was even allowed to drive.

Clearly his insurance policy is going to get maxed out to pay for all the medical help these people receive, and rightfully so. Hopefully he has lots more than that.
Actually..some info for riders hit by cars......CARBON110

I am in the process of a lawsuit to the woman who hit me. As I understand the courts in many states have an "understanding" with insurance companys. If the the insurance comp. comes to an "understanding" with the person who was if the pay out is enough, the charges are dropped as long as no one was killed. For instance, if the woman who hit me offers me enough $$ so that I don't take her and the insurance co. to court, she will have no history on her record of the event ever happening. Even the tickets for failing to yield resulting in injury and attempted leaving the scene AND not assisting injured said person will be forgotten and she will be absolved. How about that shiet!

So. If I'm a driver, I get drunk and kill a few cyclists, it's manslaughter, DUI, etc.

If have 'medical conditions', then swallow a few 'prescription pills' and do the same, I walk??? What the hell???

I thought the same thingDave Hickey

In Texas, you can be legally impaired if you are taking prescription pills. Florida must have some funky laws....
Too many seriously overmedicated seniors in FL. nmNo_sprint

I remember a case where some person was on antihistamines and fell asleep at the wheel.

The old guy should have been charged w/ driving the wrong way too.

Still odd to have no remorse...

Group ran red light?moo2

If you listen to the entire press conference here:

The officer says that a witness has come forward, saying that the entire group, except for the lead rider ran a red light a few blocks before where the accident took place.

Can anybody substantiate this? If it's true, it sounds like they would have avoided this accident, had they stopped at the red light.

This in no way lessens the severity of Mr. Pastore's actions, and I think he should serve jail time, or at the very least, never drive a car again.

I was not on this ride, by pure fate I did some sailing on that Sunday, but I generally always do that ride and we do run red lights and I am sure it did happen on that day. So yes if the group did not run the red light the accident might not have happened but then again if Mr. Pasore woke up 5 minutes later on that day or ate one more donut at waffle house ............. we can go on and on. Anyway the guy is getting what he is getting and unfortuantly it is not more. All round everyones loss. I heard about a couple that were killed on a tandem in Canada recently, riding on the shoulder and run down by a semi, very sad.
