|When i get out of the saddle and put the pressure on up a hill i hear a sight crack/pop sound which i think is coming from my bottom bracket (ultegra). Does anyone know what could cause this and how i could fix it, or if it would hurt to just keep riding it b/c its not very noticable
i am riding a trek 2300

|1) If coming from bottom bracket area, if you have a splined BB the splines need to be kept greased load those BB splines with grease
2)your BB fixed cup or adjustable cup are loose make sure they are torqued to specification.
3) Check your chain ring bolts they may be loose
a lot of times even though it sounds like it is coming from BB area that is not the case, maybe in your headset, or even 1 to many links in your chain and that is causing the noise many possibilities.
Hope this helps.

|It is most likely not, but my pedals gave me a hint of warning (slight crack/ pop) shortly before the right on sheared off and dumped me this weekend. (FYI Look PP396)
Might be worth checking out, I wish I would have.

|If ride with clipless pedals it may be the latch system in the pedal or something as trivial as a loose cleat in your shoe.|

|have you ridden in the rain recently? regardless, you may just need to pull the bb, clean out the sleeve, and regrease everything. most likely this will take care of the problem.
btw, i don't agree that greasing splines on splined bbs is necessary, nor is it likely to be the source of your problem.
could also be a crank bolt problem. when you pull the bb, be sure to clean up your crank bolts & thoroughly regrease before reinstalling. check your chainring bolts as abicirider suggested.
also, as abicirider suggested it could be that your creaking/popping noise isn't coming from the bb area at all. noises tend to travel through alu frames making it difficult to determine where the sound is coming from.
could also be
your bars/stem: check stem bolts
front hub: check hub for play.
seat post: check to be sure your seatpost is well greased and the clamp is tight
saddle rails: check to be sure your saddle isn't rocking.

|My bike was doing something similar (clicking sound when out of the saddle). The fix was simple: took off the pedals, greased the threads, and put them back on. Click went away. This may not fix yours, but is a very easy first step to rule out.|
