LA area, Angeles Crest riders...jptaylorsg

Hey, I've never ridden up Angeles Crest, but I've driven it and, of course, seen all the weekend warriors. And LA Tri club, which my girl signed me up for has group rides up it. It looks fun but tough. Watching the tour, I hear all that stuff about 7.9% grades and so on, but I have no frame of reference. Does anyone know how steep the ride is from La Canada/Flintridge area up to Mt. Wilson? Average grade? Distance? Thanks all, and good riding!

Sorry I can't be of any better help, but I'd guess it's around an average of 7 or so. It's really not that tough. I do it about once every three weeks as part of my routine. I'll check with my coach, see if he knows.

Just make sure you start early in the morning. It gets quite hot later in the day. Also, the traffic is better earlier.
