|Watching Le Tour, it seems that on the climbs the riders are REALLY moving their hips side to side, like they're putting tons of power into each stroke. Seems awfully inefficient to me... wouldn't a better method be to shift one easier and use a lighter touch on the pedals?|

|a lot of those guys have already popped (vs. a smooth seated stroke like Lance had yesterday). They are just trying to recover or finish on time.
To put it in perspective, you can see a bunch of crazy fans jogging faster than these riders at these points in the stage... imagine an endless climb after already riding 100 miles...
