Chamois creme on shorts after washing a waste?Tahoe Gator

Been using Assos' chamois creme (which I really like). Instructions say to apply to shorts after washing. Is that a waste (and way to sell more creme), or is it worthwhile? Either way, I apply some just prior to riding.
for some chamois this is neededColnagoFE

in the old days of leather chamois it would dry up without it. nowdays i just apply to butt area and dont bother coating the chamois at all.

Whether you apply it to you or the shorts is personal preference. I've tried both and prefer applying it to the shorts, that way I'm sure all the possible points of contact that could start a problem are covered. You don't need to apply creme to shorts after washing, that was for the good old days when a chamois came from a chamois (leather that needed to be treated to stay soft and supple).
