I hear all the time that the ksyrium SL's are very durable and cause very few problems. I was wondering if the ksyrium elites were just as durable. thanks
SL's break like any other wheel. Know people who have brokenPaul

drive side spokes on the old and new K's. I have a set of SL's, so far so good, but if you break a spoke, the wheel is un-rideable. I bought a set of Velomax Circuits, 24 F/28 R, If I break a spoke, I know I can get home. Plus Velomax has a great web site.

Any low spoke hi-tension wheel is a problem if you break a spoke. The Elites are heavy, and you can do better in price.

I had a pair of Ascents that the rims were full of cracks around the spoke nipples... any lightweight aluminum rims without eyelets are prone to this problem...

How often do people actually break a heavy gauge Ksyrium spoke? I have 5000 miles on a pair of SLs... no problems at all.

The point about the Elites is very valid, though: they are both heavy and overpriced. You can buy the SLs for the same price as the Elites if you look to the grey market.
I have Heliums that have broken ferrules, use stainless steelPaul

washers (2 #8) to replace the ferrules, seems the spokes are too strong for the open pro rims that mavic used for the Heliums. The top ring (eyelet) breaks off easily. I've had this happen on the regular Open Pros also.

My friend has two pair of K's, one pair has over 15 K with no problem, other pair with just 1200 miles broke a rear drive spoke. He had to walk a long way to a phone booth.

One reason I went with the circuits is that they are heavier/stronger then the lite weights they build. Also, they have much better support then Mavic. I just want an every day wheel.

Were your wheels under warrenty?

A couple of weeks ago, three riders wrote about their problems with K's. Broken spokes, and a spoke pulling thru the rim.

I have about 10K on my K's with no problems so far, but holding my breath as the Zical spokes seem to fatigue over time.

Good luck
