Seeking pointers on applying bar tape...NatC

I just wrapped some cork ribbon on my drop bars last night. As a first-timer doing it, the result was passable but could be improved. I kept getting wrinkles at the bends and wasn't sure what was the best way to wrap around the lever mount area. Do you have any secret tips or tricks, or is it just a matter of doing it a few times?

Stretch the tape- you may need to wrap, unwrap, rewrap. Obviously the overlap becomes closer together on the bends as it flares out on the back.

There are two schools for wrapping the hoods- either use a short piece of tape perpendicular to the wrap direction, or just one piece wrapped high enough.

I recommend keeping one side of the bars previous wrap job for reference.
