on downhill, came around blind corner and here they were jumping in all directions. Luckily I wasn't going that fast hill is not very steep ~9% and less then 1/2mi. It is hard to break 40mph on knobby tires.

CP

PS. I suspect deer're telling their friends 'bout that stupid cyclist who scared them off the pants. Just another day at work

I was on a shallow short climb during my ride yesterday when this black bear decides she wants to lead her cubs across the same piece of road. Just as I was approaching their location I see them and it was too late to stop, so I just accelerated by. This time of year they are still unpredictable, especially when cubs are involved so I got out of there as fast as I could.

On my morning ride I spooked three deer in the dark and two darted in front of my bike, spooking me. Then, I get home and biscuit, the family cat, decides to greet me by running directly at my bike as I'm slowing down, meowing hysterically. Trying not to turn biscuit into a pancake, I unclip on the wrong side and, crash, down I go!

Not long ago I was buzzed by an owl (bard owl I suspect) during my pre-dawn commute. It scared the heck out of me.
How about a rollerblader with a dog on an 8 foot leash?vindicator

Had one of these taking up half the road last night as our weekly practice crit hit bottom on a curving downhill and just started back uphill. I wonder if she paused to think why this section of road had all the access points blocked off with barriers?

On my morning rides I see deer, turkey, rabbitt, etc. A few years back I ran a couple of squirrels over but last week I ran over a baby raccoon. Could not avoid it as it just ran right in front of my wheel and the poor thing let out such a screech, I felt horrible. Looked back but it was gone.
Friday morning a bird flew between my arms and my body.dzrider

I felt it's wings on one arm and my chest. Scared the hell out of me for a second. Better than the lasting fear of a close call with a deer, but startling.

I was mountain biking to a fave trail heading south when
a mother deer and two young ones ran diagonally across my
path so that the mother was in front running to the left
and one young one and another young one behind me. I was
right in the middle of them doing about 20 mph and it was
totally exhilarating.

Then on my commute the other day a yellow bird with black
wings paralleled my course for a little more than 1/8th of
a mile right off my right side, almost touching distance.
It was really cool - then s/he landed in a tree. Wild.

Riding and minding my own business and this huge bird comes out of nowhere (OK the woods) and cuts right in front of me. I do not know who was more suprised me or Mr. Owl. Huge birds. Never seen one this up close. I bet he was going for a nice late day snack...
