foot pain all of a sudden(2 posts)

foot pain all of a suddenvelocity

I'm suddenly experiencing foot pain on rides greater than 50 miles or so. I use Look pedals and Sidi Genius shoes. The pain is similar to hot spots associated with wearing spd's for long distances. Shoes are about two years old. Do you think I need to replace the shoes or should I try replacing the inserts first?

Same thing happened to me about a month ago. Sidi Gen 4 shoes....and only on longer rides. It would be OK on my 40 mile training rides, but on any ride over two hours the pain would hit and it would be unbearable. It turns out that my feet swell a bit on longer rides, and it was pushing my big toe. The pain was under the ball of the foot. Sidi's don't have much of an insole, so I couldn't correct it. (I tried a gel insole.)

I've gone back to my 15 year-old, 1/2 size larger, old shoes. I'm pain free!

Anybody want to buy a pair of slightly used 44Ms? (kidding) - I'll leave them in the bag for winter spin classes.....

I'm rethinking what shoes to get next. I love the initial fit of the Sidi's, but would like real leather that might break-in to the shape of my wider, runner's caloused, feet.
