2 Questions:

a lady friend of mine is overweight - she's 6'1", prob 230 lbs. Recently she was riding with a HR monitor, her heart rate hit about 190-192 on a long, low grade climb. She's 34. Is that scary or is it ok?

next question: tonight OLN is having a show with 'enhanced coverage' - does this mean more cycling or less cycling? I know how companies like to put a spin on bad news.

She should see a doc and at least get a 12 lead done or better a stress test. But she is more then likely ok, just over weight and out of shape.

Enchanced coverage means they know the outcome and can add some drama in the comments.

Plus they replace some racing action with real extra yakking.
Everyone wins!

Depends on how much muscle she is carrying versus fat. It's great that she's out riding. 192 bpm is probably close to a max hr for her, so she could probably improve. Should see a doc. for base line ecg. May need to have a graded exercise test done to see how she reacts to exercise stress. If the resting ecg isn't normal, or the doc feels there is evidence that an exercise test is needed, it should be covered by most insurance plans. But then again, for this topic, you should not listen to some fool from the internet. :)
