Yes- riding yesterday was amazing. The weather was
incredibly nice, and unfortunately it's looking like rain
tomorrow (today). When you say ride 20 miles 3 or 4 days a
wk, gradually increasing the mileage, do you mean increase
them on each ride thereafter, or only weekly? Also, how
long should my recovery rides be? I like your idea of
recovery because I do feel a little sore today.

|Might be a good thing there's some rain coming since you're a little sore, gives you a good excuse to take the day off!
I train for racing, and I'm not sure how it translates to non-racing workouts, since the goals are very different. I hope some others will give some help in this area (check Sunday's post) Usually the longest rides are kept for the weekend for time reasons, and weekday rides are shorter since they have to be done around work, school, family, daylight hours, etc.
Generally a recover ride is under an hour and is meant just to clear lactic acid from your legs from the previous day. Keep it in an easy gear and keep the cadence high (spinning). This really helps your overal improvement.I generally do recovery rides on Monday and Friday, with one occassionally on Wednesday (depending how I feel). Since you may not be training to race, your workouts may be less intense and may not need as much recovery rides.
As far as increasing mileage, I am going to wait for the cavalry, since my experience with scheduling is very different. It may help if you have some idea of what your goals are, as this will most determine your schedule.
Sorry I couldn't give more advice, but I'd rather give none rather than poor advice.
Have fun out there!
