| Sidewall abrasion; fix w/ patch kit glue? | Money D Jul 3, 2003 10:50 PM | | I have only about two hundred miles on my Michelin Hi-Lite Prestige tires. After my last ride around Green Lake in Seattle, I noticed a three inch by 1/4 inch very thin section of the sidewall was peeling off. Kind of in tiny 1mm x 1/4 inch strips along the three inches. Cords were visible underneath. I honestly haven't hit any curbs or anything else that would cause such an injury to the sidewall.
Anyway, a guy at Gregg's cycles told me to rub a small amout of the glue from a patch kit on the strip and it should be protected and good as new.
I'm just leery as I ride on spinergys and any decent wreck would probably break my wheels!
Let me know what you think. Thanks. |
| Use liquid latex. | Alexx Jul 4, 2003 6:45 AM | | I'm not sure about the glue bit, but latex has been used by cyclists for decades on tubular sidewalls. |
| New tire. | jtolleson Jul 4, 2003 2:29 PM | | Having been the victim of a front tire blow-out that changed my life forever, I could never, ever justify deciding on a "fix" for a plainly abraded sidewall. |
