Who do you want to win the Tour?gregario

Be honest, who do you want to win the Tour? Not that you think they could do it, but who would you like? I would love it if Hamilton won. He's one tough rider and after working for Lance for a few years I would love it if he won.
Lance. Lance. Lance. Lance. Lance. nmDougSloan

Remember Lance bonking? The big fake out? The Look? Getting stuck behind a wreck and the sprinting past 20 riders to catch up? Waiting on Ulrich? He's full of drama. ;-)

what about the wreck in the TTT... and ....funknuggets

Him letting Pantini win that stage... shaking hands with Ullrich, ... him pushing Ullrich off the road (kidding)... although that crash was pretty fantastic!!! Man... I want Lance to win... it sure would make the Ride for the Roses a lot more cheery this year!!!

And what about seeing if Lance uses the old school aero brake lever instead of the left STI shifter... come on ... thats DRAMATIC.

*Plus, will Lance wear yellow starting the prologue? He has the right, but didn't last year. Maybe a super secret skinsuit needed, but not available in yellow?

*New pedals and drive train for Lance. Will his brakes work? Ooooo.

*Will he let Heras take a stage or two?

*Will Lance set a new speed record in the prologue?
Ok, Doug, I'll play. Lets see who can get the closest...funknuggets

Ok, assuming Armstrong wins and some freak doesn't jump out of the crowd and whack him.

That is my caveat here, but here is my best estimate. Lance will not even sniff yellow until the Pyrenees. Im thinking you will see the wannabes... ie: Hamilton, Ullrich, and Simoni to expect Lance to jump at Galibier and L'alpe-d'Huez, so they attack there and Lance and Heras just cover. I expect a big long breakaway in Stage 9 to get away and it may include a decent name, but hopefully will get caught near the end. I expect the teams to absolutely hammer the first 3/4 of stage 13 and you will see Lance make a big push on the Pailheres and Bonascre. Look for Postal to position Heras to try and pull a win here to try and pull the legs out of the major contenders on Stage 14. And Lance will be a maniac on the Tourmalet and Luz-Ardiden and put in the realm of 2 minutes on his nearest rivals. Stage 16 should be a sprinters day. The TT should be a good day, Lance might not win, but will be close... top 5ish. All in all, Lance rolls into Paris by about 5 minutes.

Final prediction...

1. Armstrong
2. Mayo
3. Beloki
4. Vinokourov
5. Millar (my feel good pick of the year)
6. Ullrich
7. Hamilton
my picks...philippec

In the category of who would I like to see win but will most likely not: Iban Mayo, Christophe Moreau, Vinokourov.

In the category of who I would like to see win and who actually might: Botero, Simoni or Ulrich

In the category of who I would like to see win and who will probably do so: Lance Armstrong (who, btw, just arrived here in France last night and looks emmaciated! I guess that bodes well for his Tour form).

A+

Beloki races not to win, but races not to lose. Won't win-ever, IMHO.

I think you're probably right KG. I read an article awhile back in which Beloki said that he would continue to ride the tour because it would be a shame not to be around when Armstrong finally cracks and he (Beloki) would have a chance to win.

I'm paraphrasing since I don't remember the exact quote, but I found it very telling. As you said, Beloki isn't trying to win. Rather than attacking with all he's got, Beloki's mentality is to wait around for a win to come his way.

That's guy's one tough cookie - from a nation of cycling non-entities he's got into the pro game, and were it not for some really bad fortune, would have some stages to his name as well. He really deserves a break, other than to his collar bones again.

Anyway, word is he's gonna ride USPS next season, so he's a Lancie anyway....
Actually, him and the dope testing man. (nm).Ridearound

For some reason, Lance gave Millar a hand-me-down TT helmet, which he wears all the time now.

Iban Mayo? Lance can, has, and will drop his as* in the mountains. Mayo will make top 10, may win a stage or 2, don't think he'll make GC podium.

Tyler H? Won LBL, has a good team behind him, but Classics are a different league from Tour(s). Even by his own admission he's inexperienced (CycleSport mag interview). I don't think he'll break top 10 if he even finishes.

Jan? Strong. Overweight, but strong. It definately says something that this guy's riding is seen as the only 'threat' to LA.

Simoni?? Ok, the Giro performance was good, and he has a lot of experience, and a good team. His mistake was tooting his horn very loudly after the Giro and saying he'll give LA a run in the Tour. Now LA is going to rip his legs off and eat them for dinner, just to make a point.

I'm with everyone else: I'd love to see someone actually make the Tour dramatic, but I don't see it actually happening.
Whatever, this tour is all about the race for secondpedalruns

Bigdeal you are a bit off on your Tyler prediction... Did you not know he finished the Giro in 2nd place last year with a broken shoulder.... He has finished all the tours he started when he was on Lance's team... So he will finish... (barring a crash of course, which his is problem)
Tyler is not even considered a classics rider... so his win at LBL is huge... Tyler is very humble and that "inexperienced" comment reflects just that about Tyler... I predict Tyler will be on the podium!

Go Tyler!!
I agree - mainly just want it to be interesting!Rich_Racer

I'd really like to see Tyler do well. Being English, I want David Millar to win a few stages. I'd like to see a competitive return for Ullrich too.

An Englishman supporting a Scottman? I thought you guys all hated each other like in soccer?
haha! Well yeah . . .Rich_Racer

in soccer (and rugby) we do - but in cycling it's kind of a british thing!

Rich.

p.s. I play soccer for a scottish soccer team! (I'm embarressed - don't tell my family!)
Ok - now I understandRidearound
Jul 3, 2003 8:52 AM
The Scotts hate the English, who hate the French, who hate us Yanks.

So, Millar rides a french bike, cause it's red, white and blue, which are the Union Jack colours, and wears Lance's helmet, cause it's blue and white, like the Scottish flag.

I got it now.

Oh, that would be Lance, wouldn't it? Let him get his rightful place in history (beating cancer and 4 wins should put him there already) then root against him if you must.

It's his team that resulted in his victories and they deserve the accolades he gets too.

could very well win next year . . . if his team is selected for the Tour. Not that I don't want Lance to win #5 or 6.
