|Ullrich: I guess Gaby is more than a girlfriend||NeedSpeed|

|Saw this on cyclingnews.com this morning. After the birth of their daughter, Jan apparently spilled the beans about the nature of their relationship.
Here's Jan's quote and then the link:
"I could dance on clouds," said a delighted Ullrich. "These hours will never be forgotten; Sarah Maria's birth gives me more motivation for the Tour de France, and as I fly to Paris, my thoughts are with my wife and daughter."

|Jan's announcement on his website states the following:
"ich bin der glücklichste Mensch der Welt! Heute, am Dienstag um 15.08 Uhr, brachte meine Freundin Gaby in der Freiburger Uni-Klinik unsere Tochter Sarah Maria zur Welt."
My rough translation is: "I am the happiest man in the world, Today, on Tuesday at 3:08 p.m., my FRIEND Gaby brought our daughter Sarah Maria into the world at the Freiburg Uni-Klinik."
If Gaby were his wife, I would expect that she would have been identified as "meine Frau" as opposed to "meine Freundin."
Caveat: My translation is based upon three years of high school German classes between 1972 and 1975. My recollection of the language in the 28 years since I last took a German class probably has dimmed and it is possible that idiomatic expressions for girlfiends/wives that were not used in 1975 may have developed.
