I posted this in "components" but I thought with the additional traffic here somone might know where I can find one of these.

I need a single 28 cog to save my knees on the Death Ride. I ordered one from Harris. They let me know today that they don't have one in stock. Cycle Dynamics (Canada) doesn't have one either. Anyone have any other ideas?

The aftermarket Shimano LX cassettes I've seen are made of cogs and spaces held with a few very small long allen bolts. Unscrew it and you have a nice stack of loose cogs, one of which (the second largest, iirc) is 28t.

I built a 13-14-15-16-18-22-24-28 cassete for my 8 speed road bike out of the old 8 speed cassette (had to drill the rivetts) it came with an some cogs from a 9 speed LX. Shifts like a dream, and is very nice on hills.

So all you have to do is buy an LX cassette (anoying but not to spendy, available anywhere) or find a MTB rider who is replacing his worn out one (free, but maybe not fast).

Actually, I may have an old cassette myself that has its 28t left. I'll check if you want.

I got one for free there. Actually I never even used it, and somebody borrowed it from me last week.

See you at the death ride !
