Rear Derailleur Noise...(3 posts)

Rear Derailleur Noise...bent_spoke
Jul 1, 2003 8:40 AM
I just put on a new cassette & chain and I'm getting churring noise in the 2 largest cogs, when in the small ring. In the large ring, the noise goes away, which freaked me out as I inadvertently shifted to large-large without a problem. I've tried adding tension, but no luck. Is there something I'm missing? Or should I start over as I've over tensioned the cable? Thks!
check all the bushings while you are at it.[nm]niteschaos

B screw or extra chain linkKerry Irons

It may be that the upper pulley is hitting the cogs when on the small ring. Is it possible you added one link to the chain length compared to the old chain? Try turning the B screw in to bring the derailleur body toward the rear of the bike. Just remember how many turns you give it so you can go back to the original position if this is not the fix.
