Considering a move there for a job and was wondering about the cycling community. I suspect it's pretty slim.

Thanks,
Ken

Might be less slight than you think. NM is a pretty durned good state for cycling in general. I live in Alamogordo. I've ridden most of the state at least in visiting modes and seen a good number of cyclists out and about. Plus the Tour of the Gila in and about Silver city is a regular attraction.

Gallup has it's share of social woes as small cities go. But, it can be a nice little place. The riding in that part of the state is pretty spectacular - high desert plains and red rock canyons. Can't speak directly to the cycling community, I'm guessing it's not huge due to the size of the town and the type of work that is there. ABQ though is pretty well represented and you're not too terribly far from a decent LBS.

The Tour de Gila is a world class event and the Mt. Taylor Quad is a nearby legendary activity in late January. New Mexico has a couple of nice centuries (Santa Fe, Tour of Enchantment) and the racing scene is busy.

I assume there is some pretty spectacular scenery for both mountain and road riding. I just wonder about how friendly the locals are towards cyclists and whether or not there are any bike lanes. I guess Albuguerque isn't too far to go for a good bike shop.

Thanks agian,
Ken
