Cape Cod Question(7 posts)

I'll be spending the week of the 4th on Cape Cod with my wife and extended in-laws. Unfortunately, no 'real' riding is on the menu, but we'll probably rent some cruisers and roll around a bit. What I'm wondering is if anyone knows of a bar I can escape to and watch the Tour coverage. We'll be staying in Orleans.

I'm coming from Texas and know literally nothing about the area, so any other tips are welcome.

Thanks,
Steve

Given that the Red Sox have three consecutive day games (4th, 5th, 6th) against the Yankees (and then a night game on Monday), there isn't a bar in New England that's going to let you watch bike racing.

But you'll only be missing two relatively insignificant days (the Prologue and stage 1).
but Cape Cod is beautiful. Have a good one. nmbill

Back roads from Truro to Wellfleet on the bay side.dzrider

Really pretty, rolling terrain and lightly traveled. The bike trails are typical m.u.t. with grandparents, parents, kids, dogs, roller bladers. I'm less familiar with the Mid-Cape.
I was riding one of those back roads, just digging on the day, bill

when I feel this tap-tap on my helmet. I can't figure out what's going on. I wasn't even sure that I had felt anything. Then I see on the pavement beneath me the shadow of a gull, flying just behind me, just over my head. I feel the tap-tap again.
Oh my lord, this gull thinks that my white helmet is the biggest, fastest clam he's ever seen.
Can you imagine what he must have told his buddies on the jetty later? "There was, like, this clam out of water, okay, and what it was doing out of water I don't know, but man it was huge. Huge! And fast, too, and the faster I chased it the faster it went. I couldn't believe it . . . ."
That's amazing! Maybe you could make a movie of it. nmeddie m

You can always watch it on OLN. As a matter of fact you could probably go into any bar during the morning coverage and they may put it on. When you get there track down the local bike shop, get a hold of a couple of the local roadies and go to one of the bars and "DEMAND" it. I just looked up a couple of shops, one is Orleans cycle. Go there and see if you can get some interest. Again you'll have the best luck in the morning when the Sox aren't playing. Ahh there's a sucker born every minute.
