I'm taking off to Chicago today to see some friends, and am looking for a good shop downtown/Lincoln Park. Can anybody reccomend one?

thanks

Higher Gear (Fullerton East of Ashland) usually has some nice high-end eye candy (Look, various Italian, LeMond, etc).

Cycle Smithy (Clark north of Fullerton) also has some higher end road bikes and a good selection of retro parts in the basement.

I'm a fan of On-The-Route (Lincoln just south of Belmont) since it's close to my house and the guys are nice...

Johnny Sprockets on Broadway is right in LP, but be prepared to be impaled by an avalanche of pointy steel... they stock too many bikes in a little space. A few pieces of candy - TCR composites, a Litespeed Ghisallo, Jamis and Specialized.

Second the Higher Gear suggestion though - Merkcx, Look... occasionally a Principa, some sweet stuff. If you want a souvenir, the new Higher Gear jersies are very cool, with a nice skyline on the back.

The previous two responses pretty much nail all the good options. The On the Route and Johnny Sprocket guys are pretty cool, while the Higher Gear and Cycle Smithy guys are knowledgable but kinda' snooty.
