New road biker- how to begin trainingglobalhelipimp

I'm in fairly decent shape now, with a height of 5'9" and a weight of 145lbs. At my prime, I ran cross-country in high school and ran between 35-40 miles/wk.

I haven't ran in quite sometime, and take my mountain bike out about two or three times a week, but I really don't know how far I travel.

I'm purchasing a bike this week, and would like to know how to SAFELY begin my training.

Pre and Post activites for road biking?

Anything else applicable or helpful ?!

Thanks.

Dave

whatever you don't, you don't need to hire a coach.
Say from CTS or one of those other fly by nite outfits. Just get Joel Friel book "The Training Bible">
Got everything you need right there.

don't let anybody kid you. the only things that matter are that you're not wearing a full team kit and that you sport an attractive bar/stem combo. as long as you have that setup right, you can't go wrong.

What qualifies as an attractive bar/stem combo? I have got to know this (note, some sarcasm here).
