|For anything around an hour I just stick with water. Beyond that I use lemon/lime Powerade powder. Cheap, tastes better than the more expensive stuff and it's always worked well for me. I've tried cytomax and a couple of the more expensive mixes and haven't noticed a significant difference in how I feel. Most don't taste very good when mixed to recommended strength.|

|I'm too cheap to use "Country Time" lemonade mix, so I use the store brand. I mix it very dilute, just enough to give the water a little taste.
I started doing this when I discovered how similar this stuff is to my real favorite, Gookinade ERG, an electrolyte drink that's been around for about 3 decades. I still use ERG on centuries and other very long hard rides, but the lemonade mix seems to work fine on shorter rides.

|Gatorade- I've used it for running (marathons and half-marathons). And it hasn't disappointed me yet.|

|Gatorade for rides under 2 hours.
1 bottle of Extran Energy and 1 bottle Gatorade for rides over 2 hours. Gatorade has never disappointed and upset my stomach after years of use and Extran for the same reasons but more calories and carbs.

|occasionally I've used Extran, but my long-term conclusion is "why bother?" plain water works the best for me and for energy I use PowerGels.|

|If I'm riding over 60-70 miles, I might throw something into one of the bottles. Anything over 60 miles, I'll usually have to stop for water anyway. All it takes, on rides over two hours, is a little carbo, and a little sugar.
Whatever you use, dilute it a lot.

|If it's hot Ultima in one bottle water in another for 2 hrs or more. Otherwise I don't go to Ultima until 3 hours or more. Why carry Gatorade in CT when there's a store that sells it cold every few miles?|

|For rides under a couple hours I go with water or a sports drink. For longer rides I go with a combination of Carbo-Pro and Thermolyte to recover sodium. I sweat profusely on hot days and I've suffered from mild hyponatremia (it sucks). Since using this stuff on century rides I've felt much better. I recommend it.

|Every 2 hours = 1 bottle Accelerade and 1 1/2 to 2 bottles of H2O. I go through roughly a bottle of water every 2 hours just sitting at work. The accelerade is good because I have difficulty eating on rides (sinus issues cause difficulty in breathing through my nose) and it provides carbs and protien on top of electrolytes.|
Jun 24, 2003 10:11 AM
|I have a very fast metabolism so I take at least one bottle of acceleraid on every ride. my 96 miler yesterday I took two bottles of acceleraid and had to stop and replace it with poweraid. I also used three GU packs and still starving by the end.|

|Water, and Tang. Generic, if I'm feeling particularly penitential, as (IMHO) the branded stuff tastes noticeably better.|| |
