How low can you go before you risk pinch flats or other tire problems?

Did a search on the topic and the lowest pressures I saw were about 85psi. Any one have some info or anecdotal data on low tire pressure for road tires?

I usually run 90-110 psi, but I want to experiment with lower pressures and see how much ride and cornering improve, but I don't want to have a pinch flat after 5 minutes.

I am 150lbs.

I weigh 195 and have been guilty of over inflating my tires to 120 lbs (700x23). I dropped to 110 front and rear and my ride is less jarring. I had a flat a couple of weeks ago and used co2 to put air into my tire. When I got home I check the psi for the heck of it with a tire pressure gauge and it was 83 lbs.

I've never pinch flatted on a road bike, but the pressures I had to run to keep the rims off the ground drove me away from skinny tires. I don't use anything smaller than 28, and most of my around-town riding is on 700x35s at @80 psi. If you can't get comfortable with the 23s, you might try going up a size or two. Most tires labeled 28 are only 24mm or so wide anyway.
I regularly drop to 60 psi if it's wet (nm)Rich_Racer
