Help with tightening shifting cableballbite
Jun 22, 2003 5:39 AM
My gears haven't been shifting too well on the rear cassette. I tried to tighten the cable but am confused which way I should be turning the adjusting knob.

When I am seated on the bike should I be turning it clockwise to tighten the cable or counterclockwise?

Thanks.
You want to screw it out...TFerguson

If you are talking about the adjuster on the top tube boss, it would be clockwise when looking at it from the rear. I would recommend setting this adjuster to the center and doing the adjustment at the rear derailleur. This way you can adjust the front one on the fly if needed. Either way you want to screw the adjuster out which effectively makes the housing longer and the cable shorter.
