Cleaning a Giordana Jersey(7 posts)

Cleaning a Giordana Jerseydariow
Jun 21, 2003 8:28 PM
I just bought a Giordana Jersey and I am unsure how to clean it. The cleaning instructions on the label seem confusing to me. It is 100% Polyester.

The label says: Hand Wash, Cold Water, No Bleach, Air Dry, Do not Wring, Do not Iron, Dry Clean.

So how do I clean this jersey? Wash it in the sink? What kind of soap? Should I have it dry cleaned? Seems expensive.

Any clarification is appreciated.

I've got 4-5 Giordano Jerseys-all tags say same as yours!

I wash mine on warm/cold water setting with normal detergent and hangar dry them-they dry super fast! If Mine get pretty trashed, -[esp. stained], I will hit them with a stain remover, kinda gelatinous stuff, and they buff up real nice! CHEERS!

The easiest least harmful way to clean your jersey is to follow the instructions. Yes hand wash in the sink. Woolite
is an excellent unperfumed product that rinses out easily.
It's in every grocery store so it's not hard to find.
I throw mine in the sink with a capful of Woolite and just let soak while I clean up from my ride. Then I rinse and hang to dry. No need to wring as the water will run right out of the jersey. Machine washing and detergents are hard on those new miracle fabrics. Unless you're a real 'stinker' I think you'll find the above to work just fine.

1)To set the colors in any washable fabric:
a) Fill the washing machine half-full with cold water.
b) Add 1 cup of clear Vinegar; agitate w. machine for 1 minute. (plain salt also works)
c) Place garmet(s) in and agitate for 2 minutes.
d) Stop agitation for 10 minutes.
e) Repeat steps 'c' & 'd' for 1 hour, then let machine complete cycle.
(This will also prevent multi-colored items from bleeding...our daughters were cheerleaders for 12 years and we used this method on their outfits.)

2)To remove any soap residue & scents from your washed clothing and make them squeaky clean, just add 1 cup of clear vinegar to the final rinse.

3) Use the nylon, zippered bags (ladies use them for their delicates) for washing special jerseys, socks, gloves, etc. in the washing machine. The bag takes the abuse, not the items. (Works great for the expensive items, such as bibs and outer wear....no stretching or abuse from the machine's agitator.) Remove from the washer and hang dry.

About 75% of my stuff is Giordana and here is what I do.

Throw items into washing machine, add woolite, run through regular cycle with cold water and then put on a hanger to dry. Have been doing this for quite and while and the jerseys and bibs are holding up just fine

The only thing I do differently is I run the washing machine on delicate instead of regular. And I only wash my cycling gear with cycling gear. I don't mix loads.

All my Giordana jerseys still look new.

I've always just thrown mine into the washer with the rest of the load. I put it in the dryer on medium heat too and it's holding up fine.
