Bike weights for Clydes?(13 posts)

Bike weights for Clydes?xxl

I'm continually marvelling at the flyweight bikes out there, but, since I ride a larger bike (64cm, ctc) than the sizes usually used in advertised curb weights, I am curious as to what some of you bigger riders' bikes actually weigh? FTR, mine came in at a couple ounces over 21 lbs. (105 dbl. on a steel frame, with Ksyrium Elites because the shop practically gave 'em to me).

Believe me, I'm no weight weenie, but it's hard not to be envious of those sub-18 lb. rides. I just wondered if those of us who don't qualify for the six-foot and under leagues could ever get close.

My 62 cm. Jamis clocks in at 24 lbs. not the lightest but my old Fuji was 30 lbs.No hills in my area so weight isn't a prime factor but the difference is noticable.

My Steelman with full D/A, nothing fancy is between 18.5-19 lbs. for a 60 c-c frame. That's with a steel fork AND steel stem. No crazy light stuff, DA/Open Pro wheels 32h.

A custom steel with full DA is "nothing fancy?"

That sounds like a very nice ride you have there.

it is very nice. by "nothing fancy" i meant no stupid light stuff, just off the shelf stuff - no carbon or titanium.

I'm 6' 4" 210 lbs and I ride a 61 cm Colnago CT-1 with Campy Record, carbon cranks and seat post, SLR saddle and Ksyrium SL wheels that weighs only 16.4 pounds. Over 5000+ miles and no problems at all with the bike.

I currently weigh about 218 and my Giant TCR 2 weighs
(according to the LBS scale) about 17 3/4ths pounds.

Removing the reflectors on the wheels brought it down
a tad below that but it's basically very light and very

That being said, I'll get a bigger increase in performance
than if I lose 10 pounds than if I get lighter parts.

Or even 20 pounds.

Okay, 30 then.

I've never weighed my 64cm Atlantis (I'm guessing 23-24 pounds with stout wheels and 700x35 tires, but before I put on the Carradice bag). I'm 6'4", almost 230 these days, but even when I weighed 205, I couldn't ride anything less than a 32-spoke wheel, and that was iffy.
I'm pretty sure it's not my crash-and-trash technique--I'm a convert from mountain biking in the old, full-rigid days, and I float lightly over bumps and go around (rather than over) everything I can. Even at that, and with professionally handbuilt, good quality wheels, I break spokes if I go below 36/14ga.
And as long as we're on the subject, how can a 6'4" guy ride a 61cm frame? How much post do you have showing on that thing?

I'm 6'3" and currently about 225 ride a 62cm Trek 5500 frame, reynolds ouzo pro fork, full D/A, Easton post, SLR, and Ritchey WCS stem/bars, King hubs laced to open pros 32H, 3 cross, 14/15 DB spokes, with brass nips rear and alloy nips front. Bike has over 3k miles and no problems at all. The last time I weighed it was 17.28 lbs according to my scale at work. This bike is awesome, and i love it and would not change a thing except the pedals. I have Impacts and will be getting SPD sl's D/A of course.
