This is old news, I know, but due to Rumsas' recent test failure after the Giro, and wife's arrest w/dope last year, I'd say Santiago Botero deserved to get 3rd in the '02 Tour !! He was robbed of his rightful place on the podium in Paris ! THAT SUCKS!!!! What do think ?
I think it's almost impossible...Dwayne Barry

to know who's doing drugs and who isn't. And while there seems to be good circumstantial evidence that Rumsas was doping, how do you know Botero wasn't doing the same? Afterall, if Rumsas' wife wasn't caught there would have been (up until this year's Giro) just as much reason to think Botero, Armstrong, or any of the other tour favorites were doping. Clearly, if Rumsas was doping in last year's tour, there are still ways to beat the tests.
So all riders are doping only some get caught ??JimboTero

You've made a very interesting point - how do we know that Lance Armstrong is not winning Tours because he has access to the best doping+masking technology ?Can we assume all riders are doing that ?If one rider can beat one test, they are useless, then. If tests are accurate, given the penalties, why would anyone risk it ?? People are still failing tests this year ! Are they NUTS?
Since big teams like Postal & Telecom have big budgets, then it follows that they have the best doctors and win Tours...Hmm...A pretty grim picture. Too cynical for me to consider.
Last year I was willing to give Rumsas the benefit of the doubt, but now I think his dramatic jump in ability in the '02 tour is mighty suspicious.I saw Botero have a bad day on the stage that ended with the Alp D'Huez, naturally, after a big effort the previous day.
I'd rather think that there are 2 types of riders. Those that risk doping, and those that don't. How do you know which type a rider is ? The only way is by their record. Once you've got a stain ( & I don't mean Peruvian candy )
you are suspect. Guys like Lance, Botero & Cippolini have NEVER tested positive for performance enhancing drugs. They've got class and I respect that.
Are all we loyal fans living in denial ?
Is testing a useless waste ?
What do you guys think out there ??This is the essential question of pro cycling !!

You can't lose 15 minutes on one stage and expect to podium.
No Podium place -Only because Rumsas was aheadJimboTero

Yes, he could expect that because he beat every other rider in the entire field except Beloki,Armstrong and f#?*!@g Rumsas. Lose time one day, gain time another. He beat Armstrong in the T.T. and took a mountain finish stage. A podium place in Paris place means a lot to any rider !
Whats the difference between 3rd and 4th ? Rumsas !

I taped the '02 Tour, but haven't gotten around to watching it yet. Please don't tell me who won yet.
Can I tell you who didn't win?Sintesi

Everyone didn't win except for Lance Armstrong.
