... I doubt I've ever managed to wear one long enough to degrade it. I always seem to damage it first. That's usually a non-cycling accident, like leaving it on the bike at work and finding out somebody ran something into it during the day.
When I wreck and it cracks or 2 years whatever comes first.nmthe bull

When should you replace your helmetIronbutt

The Bull is absolutely correct. You should replace a helmet at least every two years, sooner if it is left in a place where it is subject to high temperatures, like inside a closed car in the summer. High temperature can degrade the foam without the degradation being detectable by reasonable means. Likewise, any time that the helmet hits the ground, it is suspect. Even if you drop in in the parking lot, or it falls off the roof of your car, it is suspect. Any crash where the helmet touches the ground is reason to replace it. The only reason that I can even make these (to some) rash statements is because I was wearing a helmet last December when I crashed and landed on my head.
What if you don't leave it in your car.....[nm]bent_spoke

I seem to get another helmet every 2 years or so, eventually retiring the oldest and donating it to Goodwill.

that I can find it in the dark. My current helmet is a POS and the pads are falling out. Time to upgrade.
