I have an old steel frame that could use repainting. I would like to get it powdercoated. I found a site that says that they do frames for $75. My question is. Has anyone had their frame painted by a place that does not specialize in bikes? They paint a variety of things.

It should not be a problem as long as it is a reputable shop. They should be able to handle anything.

Powdercoating is a great way to go. However, since your bike is steel, be sure they treat it to prevent rust.

$75 sounds cheap, can you share a link to the site? TIA

Check your yellow book under coatings. There are several in my area that will strip, treat and coat for $75.00. You may have a powder coating shop closer than you think.

I agree, check the yellow pages for powder coat or custom painting or anodizing. I found several here in Phoenix. Base cost was $45 for a bike frame + $10 for a fork. They had some nice metalic colors, etc. You could also add clear coats and other options.
