Rear der pulley cage rubbing spokes when chain is...RhodyRider

...on innermost (23T) cog - is my der hanger bent?!? It doesn't appear to be under visual inspection, but I don't have that Park tool to properly check it.
Could it possibly be a L-screw adjustment?
(I'M NOT A MECHANIC, OBVIOUSLY, PLEASE DON'T FLAME.)
FYI: Shimano 600 (c. 1997) 8-speed der, on GT ZR 2.0 58 cm frame (replaceable hanger), Mavic Reflex clincher wheels w/600 hubs, 32-spoke standard lacing, new chain. In other words, vanilla set-up with previously-working componentry.
I don't have any knowledge of bashing the der and thereby bending the hanger, can't figure out why it is rubbing now in the 23 cog.
I checked Sheldon Brown and Part Tool sites, it seems to be bent hanger, but might a slight back-off on the L-screw fix this??
Help?

Could be bent hanger, but probably just limit screw. No harm in tightening the screw and seeing what happens.

is at least 1/8" away from the spokes. If you find that you then can't shift into the 23, that means that the hanger is a little bent.
You don't have to change the hanger unless it is bent a whole lot.
Will do. Thanks, guys. (nm)RhodyRider
