Also my dream frame. No bargain, and there's surely a premium for Merckx name, but is the price *that* bad? A Landshark (brazed rather than lugged) frame and fork using Columbus Max tubing would be $1689. I figure a Waterford lugged 853 frame would be more than that. IF 853 TIG-welded frame/fork is around $1500.

If you don't require full custom, the MX Leader seems pricey but not outrageous. Compared to other overpriced Merckx frames like the 7005 aluminum TIG-welded $1450 Leader, it even looks cheap! [Maybe I'm just trying to psych myself up for a purchase...]
What is the weight? Is it still over-built...Spunout

as per most of Merckx`s offerings?

Even with the steel fork, it would be great to see this combo at 4 lbs. I bet the frame alone is almost 4.

Anybody know? Don`t mean to be a weight weenie on steel, but alot of 853 or EOM frames are coming under 4 including carbon forks. Just to compare.

IMHO; I`d take that extra pound anyday!

my columbus brain merckx strada (57 c-c) weighs ~4.5 pounds frame only, and the chromed steel fork weighs ~1.5 pounds. with chorus 10 and open pros, look pp296, and a ssm regal ti saddle, total weight around 21-22 pounds, i think. still a lightweight compared to the ol' surly cross-check.

I've got a Merckx Corsa 01 and I can't see how anyone would need a stiffer frame. In my view, you would need to be very heavy and strong to need something as stout as the MX Leader. My Corsa weighs 6 lbs. for the frame and fork in size 57, and the MX Leader would probably weigh more than that. The "advertised" weight for the corsa frame was 3.9 lbs, but the actual weight for mine was about 4.5 lbs. BTW, the Corsa 01 costs about $500 less than the MX Leader.
are these still being made?rufus
