Actually I don't see the stripes on the shoes. Granted it's a crappy picture, but still for $1000 I would think the seller would provide multiple pictures...

I got a pair for 29$ and I still think I've paid too much.
With respect to signature how much would you pay for roll of toilet paper if LA signed it?

Honey, I've made a major contribution to my bike shoe collection and for only a grand. Ok, sweetie, now step away from the weapon wontcha hon?

Personally, I wouldn't pay 50 bucks for those shoes and they're my size. OTOH, I gave up being mystified by collectibles long ago. People like to collect weird stuff. You get a little community of people who like to collect the same weird stuff and some of it gets pricey. From outside one of these communities, it can be pretty hard to tell what separates the obscure item that nobody wants from the rare item that 11 people want a great deal. Go figure. In that regard, the shoes may not be very different from any other thing that's valuable to "collectors." To each his or her own.
