Cycling in the finger lakes region?dante

Hey, quick question, anybody have any ideas on where to start looking for rides in the winery region of upstate NY? My GF and I want to do a wine-tasting tour, something along the lines of finding a B&B with 4 or 5 wineries within 20 miles or so. Ride to winery, taste wine, ride to another winery, taste wine, ride back, drink wine, repeat.

I know there are guided tours but we were looking more along the lines of self-sufficiency (read: cheaper). Anybody have any thoughts? has a section on trails, this place should have a section on "rides".

There's a fellow named Douglas Brooks who posts on the Serotta forum who will be able to answer your questions. I believe he is a Prof. at U Rochester and a MAJOR cycling enthusiast. - click on messageboard. I can't recall if there is a sign up procedure.

Also if you look on any search engine, you'll get tons of hits. There are a lot of academic wine drinkin' biker types in the Finger Lakes.

I spent 3 years in Ithaca and can tell you there aint much to see there. Lake Skaneateles (skiny-at-olis) is a gem as is the entire East side of Lake Cayuga. There are some serious hills up there so don't drink too much

Good luck have fun and hope it doesn't snow
Thanks, spent 4 years at U. of Rochester, dante

so I know that there's not much going on. A winery tour would be fun, probably going to make a long weekend of it, ride during the day, drink wine, eat good food, pass out, repeat. And my girlfriend thinks this is romantic so I get points for when I want to spend the weekend racing downhill mtb at Plattekill... :)

Don't forget to visit Nick Tahoe's. :) nmraboboy

very upsetting. haven't been back since I graduated in 98, but those were some good times, any night was good when it ended in a nick's run at 3am. (paid for it in the morning, though)
