Mountain Bike Workouts vs. Road Bike ?LeadvilleBlues

I'm off to Provence, France soon and will be taking my old Trek 7000 Mountain Bike as my only frame. Leaving the road bike behind, trying to save $$$ and all the clutter of travelling with 2 kids, lay overs, and 2 bikes etc. I'll put my Speedplays on, and change to my road saddle. Towing the kids behind in a trailer on the Trek when I'm not trying to keep up with training rides for an "A" race, 2 weeks after my return from Provence. Can I get the same rewards from training on the off road bike (w/ Slicks ? )

much of a difference. They only thing that may suffer is your road biking form (i.e. the way your body is trained to ride the road bike for your personal optimum performance. Better to maintain fitness with what you got than nothing at all.

Eschelon,
Since the race that concerns me is a hill climb, perhaps form isn't that much of an issue. Slide back on the saddle, go to the top of the bar, and hammer !
