I've already ridden it about 100 miles and it feels good...alternatively I could keep telling people it's the new 04 Campy extra tall top cap.

...continuously -- do a century; if ok then, whack it.

I'll try in a couple of days...ironically enough my back went out on me yesterday when I was showering. I must have twisted it in an odd angle when bending my head down to rinse my hair. I never get back pains on any of my bikes though.

I still got mine after 1.5 years. 2cm extra. My feeling is, my current bike will hopefully last me the rest of my life. However, things happen, people get fat, people get injured, people get old and stiff. So why not leave a little fudge factor.
leave it! You never know if you may need it later!(nm)merckx56

Initially I bought the road bike "on the side" to improve my fitness for mountain biking. I've now found that it's working so well that I'm spending most of my time on the road instead of training on the trail. My seating position has since changed more to the rear and it actually feels more comfortable since I started lowering the handle bar height. In the stock position the top of the bars were actually higher than on my MTB. Now they're about 10mm lower.

I have about the same amount of steerer tube showing and have been contemplating the same thing. As of the moment, I plan to ride for the rest of the summer, as is, and then cut it back to 1/2-1 cm. I feel like some of the others, I would like to option to raise the bars a little if needed.
